I also recommend using VCDS to peg cam to crank timing to 0.0°.Ĭlick to expand.The OP said how to avoid problems and that is what you posted. continue following How To, don’t forget to tighten all cam gear bolts ![]() ![]() slide belt onto cam gear, may need to lightly tap with wood block route belt over water pump and tension roller install new belt on crank gear first, line up marks on belt & gear loosen cam gear from cam, but don’t remove gear leave idler roller off for now (“G” on illustration) install new tension roller, loosen as much as possible transfer same marks to new belt (may help to write TOP on belts) count number of cogs from mark to mark, doesn’t matter which direction mark old belt and gears near top and bottom cogs (see red & green markings) Here’s my tip: sounds like mark & pray, but guarantees accuracy… sort of a “belt & suspenders” approach - a little too long to type-out step by step so I'll add a visual: The most common error is to install new belt with cogs being off by one.
